Bandon
is a small town located on the southern Oregon coast at the mouth of the Coquille River, approximately 90 miles north of the California border. The heart of Bandon is its' "Old Town" section down by the harbor, which literally could take hours to explore. Art galleries, unique shops, the marina, a driftwood museum, fine restaurants and dock-side fish & chips joints, a pier for fishing - its all found in Bandon. Old Town is also right next to the boat basin where it's easy to walk and take in the spectacular ocean view. But, for ocean views that feature some striking sea stacks, drive south along Beach Loop Road as it follows the shoreline to various beach access points. The Bandon State Natural Area offers hiking and beach combing, fishing and wind surfing, and the town is also home to two premier golf courses. There are over 900 acres of cranberry bogs in Bandon, and the annual "Cranberry Festival" is held in mid-to-late October. It features a parade, dances, arts and crafts and, of course, cranberry dishes of every kind imaginable. You might also want to visit the Bandon Cheese Factory on Highway 101, where you can watch cheese being made and sample a variety of different kinds of cheese. Bandon-by-the-Sea has charm galore along with perfect ocean scenery and is a great place for fun and relaxation.

The Southern Oregon Coast enjoys a mild, varied climate, with only rare occurrences of severe weather such as thunderstorms, tornadoes or hailstorms. The most important geographic feature that affects the climate is the Pacific Ocean, which makes up the western border of the state. Most of the storm systems moving across Oregon have been greatly modified by traveling over the ocean. As a result, winter minimum and summer maximum temperatures on the Oregon coast are also greatly modified. The coastal region does, however, receive an abundant amount of rainfall much of the year, resulting in occasional flooding along coastal streams. This also accounts for the rich pastures and farmland along the Oregon coast. The average annual snowfall in the region is only one to three inches, and many years there is no measurable amount.
