Willamette-Pass
is located in east central Oregon in the Cascade Range, approximately 58 miles east of the city of Eugene. It is sometimes also called "Salt Creek Pass." Highway 58 crosses the Pass at almost exactly a mile above sea level, and Odell Lake lies at the foot of the mountain like a jewel. The area is filled with stunning scenery and other lakes, as well, including Waldo Lake and Crescent Lake. The Diamond Peak Wilderness Area is located just south of the Pass, and Mt. Bachelor is to the east. Willamette Pass is one of Oregon's premier ski areas (the third largest,) and offers skiers a variety of terrain over 550 acres and 29 trails, with a vertical drop of 1,563 feet. Nighttime skiing and cross country skiing are also available at Willamette Pass, as well as snowboard contests, competitive ski racing, snow tubing and snowboarding on open trails. A day use lodge is located on Willamette Pass, but there is no overnight ski lodge. However, four lodges are within ten miles of the mountain and several others within 30 miles. In summertime, Willamette Pass is open to mountain bikers. Biking enthusiasts' load their bikes on the ski lift and go up the hill to the 6,660-foot Eagle Peak. To reach Willamette Pass, take Highway 58 east of Eugene to milepost 62.

Willamette Pass Weather & Climate
Central Oregon enjoys 300 days of sunshine per year and is relatively free of any climate extremes. Any variation in the weather depends on elevation and proximity to the mountains. The climate near Willamette Pass is generally mild, where temperatures drop off rapidly in the evenings year round due to the high elevation. It can be in the 70s during the day at the Pass in the summertime but near freezing at night. The Cascade Mountains keeps most of the rain over the valleys and on the coast, so it's relatively dry at Willamette Pass by comparison. Occasional sleet, hail or snow is possible in the winter. Snow usually falls during the evening and melts off during the day at the lower elevations. However, the high Cascades receive the state's heaviest snowfalls.
