McKenzie-River
begins high in the Cascade Mountains and flows westward parallel to Highway 126 on its way to meet the Willamette River near the town of Springfield. The McKenzie River is approximately 45 minutes east of Eugene and is near small towns such as Blue River and Vida. This beautiful, sparkling river is popular for white water rafting, fishing and is a favorite among photographers. It runs along a 68-mile long corridor, and supports Chinook Salmon, Rainbow Trout, winter steelhead and summer steelhead, cutthroat and bull trout, and the high lakes of the region have brown and brook trout. No wonder its a fisherman's paradise! There are also several state parks along the McKenzie River, including the Ben and Kay Dorris State Park, which offers fishing, boating, hiking and picnicking opportunities. The McKenzie River Valley Highway travels through peaceful nut and fruit orchards, Christmas tree farms, and the Leaburg Dam and the Leaburg Trout Hatchery are located in the middle part of the valley. The middle river is also popular for "driftboat fishing." You can also take the Aufderheide Memorial Drive which is part of the West Cascades National Scenic Byway and is one of the most spectacular drives in Oregon. Hiking and biking are popular along the 26-mile McKenzie River National Recreation Trail, which takes you through volcanic formations, and the half-mile loop Delta Old-Growth Nature Trail. It ends at the Robinson Lake Trail, which leads to a heart-shaped lake that allows fishing and swimming. Other activities in the McKenzie River area include golf, shopping and fine dining.

The McKenzie River Area enjoys a generally mild climate with an average temperature of 53 degrees, mild winters, long growing seasons, and very few drastic weather elements. The area usually experiences sunny, mild summers that continue into October. The majority of rain falls in the winter and early spring months. It rarely snows in the McKenzie River Region, but during winter, snow may occasionally dust the foothills and skiing is available in the mountains at Willamette Pass. Depending on snow conditions, the Pass can be open from Thanksgiving to April. Summertime temperatures are generally in the 80s with cool evenings, although the region can experience a week or so of higher temps in the 90s or even 100s.
