Ashland
is a delightful little town located approximately 15 miles north of the California border, near Crater Lake National Park. As the southernmost city in the state, Ashland is the gateway to Oregon for many visitors heading north. The main attraction in town is the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, for which Ashland is renowned. It typically runs from mid-February through October, and some 100,000 people come to this mountain town each year to attend more than 700 performances of 11 plays - four by Shakespeare and seven by other playwrights, on three unique stages. Another attraction in Ashland is the downtown itself, which is filled with charming boutiques and shops, unique art galleries and antique shops, historic buildings and sidewalk cafes. You'll find several cozy bed & breakfasts in town, many in beautiful old Victorian homes. Lithia Park, in Ashland, stretches for a mile south along Ashland Creek, with lovely flower gardens, a tree-lined drive, several wooded hiking trails, and ponds with wild ducks and tame swans. Other places to visit in the area include Howard Prairie Lake, Hyatt Lake, Lake of the Woods, Lost Creek Dam and the Mt. Ashland Ski Resort. Outdoor fun near Ashland includes hiking and biking, camping, fishing, swimming, boating, and in wintertime, downhill and cross-country skiing and snowmobiling.

Ashland Weather & Climate

Northwest California , near the Oregon state line, has a fairly normal four-season climate, with variations in temperature and precipitation depending on the elevation. The Klamath River flows for 263 miles, generally southwest from Upper Klamath Lake in southwest Oregon through northwest California to the Pacific Ocean. Therefore the seasons are somewhat influenced by the Pacific Ocean. It usually always snows in the area and winter temperatures can become quite cold, however, the snow melts quickly at the lower elevations. Most precipitation is received October through March. On Mt. Shasta, the exposure to storms from the Pacific, plus its elevation, results in high winds and heavy snow accumulations. Like most of California, summers in this region tend to be warm and dry, with occasional thunderstorms at the higher elevations.
